The fourth edition of Greatest celebrates roots firmly planted and the impact of that grounding heritage—the crossroads of past and present. Features include Eric Elms, Marwa Atik, Frederick Bouchardy of Joya, Stephen Malbon, Zolee Griggs, Smino, Frankie Harrer, Daily Paper, Iddris Sandu, Lexie Liu, Blue the Great, Vibram, Kimberly Drew and Xander Zhou. Nº4 includes contributions from Anthony Pappalardo, Elle Clay, Logan Rahut, Taylor Curran, Malcom McNeil, Thomas Welch, Asato Iida, Whest Cornell, Jason Rodgers, Amirah Mercer to name a few. Serving as art director and designer for the magazine, I coordinated photo and video shoots, selected and directed contributors and talent, directed production and printing and launching the magazine at the Daily Paper flagship store in Amsterdam. new when the whole world is looking at the same things to get “inspired”? We watch the same shows, eat the same food, listen to the music our algorithm tells us we’ll like. In late 2017, Apple thought it was time for a change. To brief new teams and set the momentum for the season, I was brought int to create a comprehensive briefing presentation that was to take place inside of a gallery space that included wall to wall poster art, an interactive keynote and a take-away zine recap. We gathered a collection of statistics and quotes about creativity from a wide range of creatives and writers and divided them into chapters to tell the story. Direction, Identity 2022 Founded by legendary Blue Moon brewmaster Dr. Keith Villa and his wife Jodi, Ceria Brewing Company is a maker of alcohol-free and cannabis-infused craft beer. One of the very few doctors of beer sciences, Villa blends ancient techniques with groundbreaking innovation to create a process that thoroughly and efficiently rids beer of even trace amounts of alcohol, earning the beverages’ “alcohol-free” (as opposed to “non-alcoholic”) designation. Mother Design partnered with the family-run brewing company to refresh its brand strategy and visual identity system. In doing so, we wanted to honor Villa’s deep devotion to both the history and modernization of brewing and, above all, the heart this family brings to their craft. We refreshed classical, timeless typographic and symbolic elements to mirror the old-world/new-world tension, and dressed them in a color palette that’s bright, refined, differentiated, and delicious. To differentiate Ceria’s two product lines, we created a system that celebrates Ceres—Ceria’s namesake and the Greco Roman goddess of agriculture—in two distinct visual forms: in facial profile, to represent the standard alcohol-free offering, and in full physical form, to represent the cannabis-infused alcohol-free offering.&nbsp; As “beverages reinvented for modern living,” Ceria’s brews are intended to enhance our lives, bring people together, and not hold us back; and we look forward to seeing this small company realize its beautiful dreams in very big ways. Direction, Identity 2021 A global music contest to find the next great up-and-coming artist and give them the chance to share their talents with the world. With over 14,000 submissions world-wide across every genre imaginable, the judgest narrowed it down to a select 5 from each region to compete for the final prize—a chance to perform with YUNGBLUD live in-concert. To create a new vibe for this year’s contest, I modified a cut of Van’s Franklin Gothic that could be stretched vertically in motion, which played a huge part in the broadcast graphics packaged we developed for the live show as well as setting any artist name or messaging to fit within any size frame. Using tight crops, a sexy song and pulsating red lights that slowly reveal the device, we were able to bring this new product to life.
